Leadership Nairobi Alumni Speaks
I’m Ann Odhiambo, an advocate of the High Court of Kenya. I run my own law firm in Kilimani and joined the Nairobi Leadership program through the Kilimani Foundation. This program is unique, training us to be effective, influential leaders of action. We’ve learned about lawmaking at LN Academy, engaged with Nairobi County on service provision, and visited impactful organizations like Shofco. Today’s session on advocacy taught us the importance of sharing accurate information. Thanks to Leadership Nairobi, we are prepared to be the change leaders Nairobi needs.

Hi everyone, my name is Berly. I’m a Child Protection Officer and the cohort president at Kilimani Project Foundation’s Leadership Nairobi. The sessions, particularly on DEIB (Diversity, Equality, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging), have been impactful, making me more self-aware and inclusive. I’ve learned that civic engagement isn’t just for politicians; everyone can play a leadership role. Through this training, I’ve made a significant impact in my community and participated in forums like the Open Governance Policy for Nairobi County. This experience has been the best thing that has ever happened to me.

My name is Elizabeth Okumu, Chairperson of the Shofco Urban Network in Nairobi County. I’m grateful for this training. I’ve learned how to lead my community better and handle budgeting effectively. I now understand data protection and can educate my community on their rights regarding sensitive information. This training has made me a more knowledgeable and impactful leader.

Good afternoon. My name is Architect Irene Aguttu from the Kilimani Project Foundation. My biggest takeaway from Leadership Nairobi has been community mobilization. Kilimani is diverse, and by pooling our resources and skills, we can improve our living standards and environment. I highly recommend this program to anyone aspiring to be a leader or enhance their leadership skills.

First of all, I want to thank the Kilimani Foundation for organizing this event under Leadership Nairobi. Before this training, I lacked knowledge in governance and leadership engagement. Now, I can interact with and hold leaders accountable. We’ve learned about the budget cycle and public participation. Identifying community gaps through walk-and-talks was particularly enlightening. This training has equipped me with knowledge that I will put into practice.

Good afternoon. I’m Jonathan Kass, an urban planner and civil engineer. Being relatively new to Nairobi, this program has been rich in diverse perspectives and insightful sessions. Topics on media engagement and governance have been particularly enlightening. Despite challenges like corruption, this program instills a belief in a positive path forward for Nairobi.

My name is Nyokabi Ngari, a lawyer running African-Human Global Network. I focus on legal services for marginalized women and girls. One of the most impactful topics was budgeting. I now understand how budgeting works and am ready to hold leaders accountable. This training has been an amazing opportunity to learn and connect with like-minded individuals ready to serve Nairobi.

It’s a call to anyone interested in leadership to join this incredible journey of learning and community impact.
Thank you leadership in Nairobi.

My name is Sharon M and I work for an NGO in Kenya. As a participant in the first cohort of Leadership Nairobi, I’ve learned a lot about budgeting and how funds are utilised professionally. Understanding how the county government manages funds has been insightful. This training has greatly benefited my work, and I hope future participants will enjoy it as much as I have.

My name is Samuel Gachoki, currently in business. I aspired to join politics in 2022 but lacked understanding of the constitution and civic leadership. Leadership Nairobi has taught me how to bring leadership into politics. Learning about public financing and budgeting has been crucial. My name is Wilkister Omondi, and I work with SHOFCO in five sub-counties: Kibera, Dagoreti South, Dagoreti North, Langata, and Westlands.
