Environment Pillar
The Environment Pillar has planted 34,000 trees to replenish those lost by concrete development. In 2023, we planted over 1,550 trees along Ngong road between Nairobi Traffic Police HQ and Rose Avenue. On the National Tree Planting Day, the Foundation collaborated with the Nairobi County Government to plant 100 trees along Ngong Road. The Foundation collaborated with NCC on Clean up of Kilimani where we collected 5 tones of waste during the cleanup drive held in Kilimani In 2023, through our Kilicycle Waste Collection Drive, we collected over 10,000kgs of waste.
We carry out our work through various committees (working groups) composed of the Foundation’s members, who readily volunteer their time and expertise. One such committee is the Kilimain Planned Development Committee, whose core mandate is to establish a framework for participating in the shaping of balanced urban planning, and orderly sustainable development of Nairobi City and Kilimani Ward in particular in a way that leaves the community empowered, connected, and responsible.
Through the Planned Development Pillar, the Foundation has worked on development controls, planning and safety in Kilimani. We have established a tracking system for irregular developments in Kilimani, held regular Public Barazas with regulatory bodies to provide a platform for structured dialogue between public officials and residents and we have hosted over ten public forums in the past two years to address issues of planned and sustainable development, public service delivery and community mobilization.
