The Kilimani Youth Chapter
In Kenya, the median age stands at 19yrs which supports the large percentage of its total population being the youth. The constitution of Kenya also describes this group as a minority group thus, based on these and a myriad of other factors, Kilimani Project Foundation (KPF) sought to create a focus program tailored for this interest group. In tandem with the Kenyan Constitution, KPF describes the youth as individuals between the ages of 18 and 35 yrs old.
The Kilimani Youth Chapter and as popularly known, KiliYouth (a coinage of the words Kilimani and Youth) was created to address the issues of the youth in Kilimani under the Social Cohesion Pillar.
It was started with its core mandate geared towards three key objectives:
- Youth Engagement.
- Youth Empowerment.
- Youth Inclusion.
The chapter looks to create different avenues where different issues are addressed e.g: The Knowledge Gap as a barrier to accessing opportunities, mental health as an existent global crisis, business growth, networking and ultimately a thriving living, working and/or studying Kilimani youth community.
KiliYouth is an expression of the intent of the Foundation leadership to engage and absorb the youth into our membership actively. We have broken down this wide demographic into 4 thematic areas based on age and interest. These are:
- 18-24 yrs – College-age bracket.
- 25-35 yrs – Working Class and Entrepreneurial.
- Gig Workers – Dhobi Women, Street Food Vendors, Car Wash & Garage Attendants.
- MSMEs and scaling businesses.
We use specialised approaches to curate experiential touchpoints for the youth who live, work and/or study within Kilimani to have an all-rounded experience with us.
This is through:-
- Skill Workshops
- Youth Forums
- Fun Days
- KPF Membership
- Networking Events
- Business Expos
If you are a youth who lives, works and/or studies within Kilimani, we are looking forward to connecting with you.
